Whaaat? That seems rather weird, sounds like they want to push you out.

5% pay cut??? What the heck, I've never heard of that. What's the point?

You made it sound like they lowered your salary because you weren't performing well.

They effectively did - my salary will buy 4.7% fewer things next year than it did this year.
