This is good and bad at the same time. One big reason we use plastics is because they tend to not be degraded by natural processes. Some of course are better than others. Eventually I may have to worry about how long my computer monitor will last without falling apart. Metals have oxidation which can be mitigated with paints. Paints are more and more becoming plastics. Even metals may be subject to more oxidation due to bacterial processes.
I think I read the the end of the Carboniferous was partly due to fungi having evolved to eat cellulose.
