The US government has an absolute right to require vaccines in emergency situations, period. That was addressed by the supreme court multiple times.

In this was the case, the gov would've just done that: ordered citizens, not companies, to vax up. But the gov isn't dumb: they knew such an order would be struck down by a federal judge in a matter of days. That's why they this clever truck with companies.

Jacobson v. Massachusetts. States have a constitutional right to enforce vaccines for public health reasons.

more generally, the police powers of a state exceed that of individual liberty in emergency situations. otherwise, the state loses its ability to handle existential crises.

That's not an emergency situation.

Except in this case it is not emergency. Same as flu each year is not an emergency.
