Australians to create climate 'black box'

Good idea. I might have shaped it more like a pyramid with every measurement in compliance with sacred geometry and buried 60% of it the repeated the same method with the same contents in locations on every continent factoring in which earth plates are in subduction zones and which will raise. Align all of them along the cardinal points. Put a few of them on the moon and link them to the pyramids on earth for off-site backup. No words on them, just a giant imprint of Kilroy. [1] Encase the entire thing in Tungsten Carbide this time, not casing stones. Total weight of each minus contents should be about 5,750,000 tons. Anything smaller will tumble and turn to dust.

The pitch drop 1930's science experiment is the longest running, and they hope their steel monolith lasts that long.

If it isn't a dwelling, likely leaks which corrode will happen quickly and be untreated.

If the atmosphere is unrecoverable then they are hoping for an alien to recover it which has a host of other problems. If the earth does recover and people find this before it rots are we anticipating they will be able to retrieve the data?

It is more likely some chieftain will have a nice magnetic platter disc necklace, than it is for a civilization to have the right understanding and capability to get back the data. On the off chance it is recovered for its intended purpose, it will be a wealth of information.
