Chromecast volume controls are disabled on Android 12 due to a ‘legal issue’

The legal issue seems to stem from a few Sonos patents:

For example, Sonos has patented "Method and apparatus for adjusting volume levels in a multi-zone system" and the patent shows an app where you can set volume levels for connected devices:

So what's the best practice today? Install patches immediately avoiding an unusable device because of hacking? Or wait a week avoiding an intentionally unusable device because of yet again a flaky patch.
