Omicron variant may have picked up a piece of common-cold virus

If SARS-CoV-2 picked up the genetic sequence from HCoV-229E or HIV then what is stopping things going the other way around?
It could also be the start of SARS-CoV-2 becoming endemic and mild.
Either way, things are interesting from a virologist view.
- You are better protected against Omicron if you caught the "right" cold
- An Omicron infection (or maybe a vaccine) can protect against some common colds
- As a last resort, deliberately infecting people with HCoV-229E will help
- We should include all the endemic coronaviruses in our vaccines
I have a feeling that all the answers are "no", but I just enjoy the idea of having some common cold viruses take collateral damage.

whaaaaaaaa?! How does a virus "pick up a snippet"?? Did they mean it coincidentally mutated to have the same sequence? How would it combine with another virus, and why hasn't it done this last year?
