Could not agree more. A perspective that has taken care to look at the larger picture. Digital competency cannot be reached with Chromebooks or Windows S in carefully constructed software prisons. Educational institutions are left alone though and smarter people need to provide viable alternatives. When I look at schools that buy expensive iPads for their pupils, I fear for their competency with computer systems. The device doesn't provide anything they couldn't do with their phone and lack of choice means there is no learning effect. These are effects that don't even have to take a look on security.
If we define computer security to be the combination of confidentiality, integrity, and availability for data, and as resilience, reliability and safety for systems, then we are failing terribly on all points.
