As someone that lives on the coast, I am not witness to this. Im not trying to argue numbers ... i cant get passed the paywall to see if they (WSJ) have any ... but youre not going to buy a house in my town anytime soon. Youre not going to find a reasonable priced house within 35 miles of the coast from san diego to seatle. If you do I urge you to buy it.
Edit: Saw the archive site ... No one is 'fleeing' the coast. The apartments vacated by those buying somewhere else were immediately filled. Title should say 'coastal renters buying inland'
Every time I see an article like this, all I can think about is how a robust rapid transit system could ease so much of this. I know I'm oversimplifying it, but a bullet train could operate between SF and Sacramento in ~30 minutes. Everything on the other side of the hills of the East Bay feels inaccessible when it should be integrated.
Have you see what Las Vegas is doing? Rapid mass transit at zero cost to the city or tax payers. Payed for by the operators and users.
That’s cause it’s for tourists only
Not sure why you think it is only for tourists or how they would even determine that. It's more like a subway system
