Huffpo has layoffs, so all of journalism is doomed? Over-react much?

And Huffpo is somewhat marginal at being journalism...

imo there's not really a lot of genuinely liberal rags that seem well to do. for a good long while huffpo seemed like new establishment, like a rare new force that would perhaps be forever be of means.

i can think of few more recent upcomers who seem likely to have potential long-term significance & largess. there's plenty of good journalism happening, but there's few visible potential left-of-center entities that seem likely to endure, to be of size, to already have the ball rolling.

sure yeah huffpo wasn't the absolute most ideal & perfect. but it was by far the right direction. far more calibrated & earnest & less encumbered by really bad & awful than basically almost everyone else.

The move from print media to online publishing destroyed the barriers to entry that the large media companies used to enjoy. Huffington Post used this to rise up while print media faltered. The bandwidth, server, and tech costs have likewise fallen in the years since they were founded, making start ups in this space even less expensive. The barriers to entry that outfits like HuffPost used to enjoy are gone. Now it's a question of who can rake the most muck because the ability to draw attention is now the top barrier. In the near future this might be moot and the main barrier will be the ability to appease CloudFlare, AWS, and domain registrars.
