A lie can travel all the way around the world before the truth manages to put on its shoes [1]. The way interactions happen on social media almost guarantees that the medium acts like a mutagen for ideological memes. This could be easily rectified by changing how people interact on platforms like Facebook and Twitter but doing so would reduce their profits so our social fabric will continue to deteriorate and these companies will continue to make billions in profits because any alternative that encourages sane and truthful discourse is less profitable.
