Why health-care workers are quitting in droves

> Whatever the intentions behind these decisions, they were the final straw for the many health-care workers who told me that they left medicine less because of COVID-19 itself and more because of how their institutions acted. “I’ve been a nurse 45 years and I’ve never seen this level of disaffection between clinicians and their employers,” Brogan told me. The same is true across almost every sector of the U.S. Record-breaking numbers of Americans left their jobs this April—and then again in July and August. This “Great Resignation,” as my colleague Derek Thompson wrote, “is really an expression of optimism that says, We can do better.”

It looks like there is a growing resentment between the various economic classes and it's starting to show up almost everywhere. Interesting times.

Hospital mergers and acquisitions have gone up significantly in the last decade and to make up for the increased debt load, the hospital systems are pushing practitioners to see more patients per day. Quantity of patients has increased, while quality went in the other direction.

My wife (who quit earlier this year) had to spend significantly more time completing patient charts "after work" because there was no time to actually do this at work with the push to see more patients.

Combine frustrated practitioners and frustrated patients and everyone's pissed off -- then throw in a pandemic.
