All of Neal Stephenson's books are hastily-wrapped, like he just got out the point he wanted to make and cannot be bothered to finish the book

I think baroque cycle broke that mold a bit. Otherwise I agree.

in all fairness, at that point, he has usually written quite a bit. ;)
