The more salient point isn't about classifying any particular person as independent-minded or conventionally-minded.

It's that almost everybody cargo cults almost everything. Once you realize this, you start asking yourself powerful questions. Why do I (and everybody else) believe this? How might it be wrong? What might be a better explanation?
