Progress bars are like project managers. They try to provide realistic perspectives on what's going on, but at the end of the day they only have a vague understanding of what's happening and how much work is left.

Except they also add tons of overhead which also makes everything go slower, including that meeting to discuss why we go so slow.

Reminds of the time NPM (the CLI) was made slower by having an inefficient progressbar, disabling the progressbar made installations significantly faster.
