The short take is that it is competitive in productivity, still falling short in gaming (mostly due to a lack of support), and amazing in efficiency. Which we pretty much already knew. But it also shows that it is competitive with these laptop CPUs, while not destroying them in performance, though it is well ahead in some tasks like code compilation.
The efficiency is beyond compare, though. And anyone who could buy this for anything other than gaming, and get cutting edge performance. This is one of the few comparisons I've seen that focused on comparing the Macbook Pro to Intel/AMD rather than just past Intel-based Macbook Pros, though it does include a relatively comparable CPU (to Intel-based Macbooks) in the tests as well.
They also have a written version of the article for those that prefer to read rather than watch.
It's pretty outstanding it can emulate an x86 fast enough for games to be playable. The way Android SDK suffers when emulating even a puny cellphone ARM SoC is telling.
Remember: this is a workstation-class laptop, not a playstation-class one ;-)
It'll run for well over a work day doing work tasks (VDI session, video chats, etc) and have enough charge to watch a movie after work
The bigger battery, improved efficiency, and faster processing of the new M1 Pro and M1 Max is only good stuff going forward
