Bullseye – the new version of Raspberry Pi OS

>GTK+3 has been around for several years now, and people have occasionally asked why we didn’t move to it before now. The simple answer is that many things are much easier to do with GTK+2 than with GTK+3, particularly when it comes to customising the appearance of widgets – GTK+3 has removed several useful features which we relied upon. It has ended up being necessary to find work-arounds to a lot of these – hopefully no one will notice them and everything will still work as before!

It seems like Gnome users and Gnome developers couldn't have more different expectations for what Gnome is supposed to accomplish. Add in the theming drama, PopOS drama, and KDE drama, and the Gnome devs are starting to look quite obtuse.

Some of my favorite features: 300 MHz speed boost for newer stepping BCM2711 processors in the Pi 4 and CM4, Python 3.9 by default, a newer libcamera implementation for interacting with the Pi camera hardware, and an updated (but still beta) 64-bit build.

Over 10 years now!

The camera change is very welcome. Dealing with all the custom stuff was a pain.
