I've always wondered why Siberian pine nuts (orekhi) are unknown outside Russia. They're hugely popular there and street sellers in Irkutsk will sell you a kilo of shelled nuts for under $20.
Kedrohvyye oreshki. Orekhi is just "nuts".
Maybe it is because they are so expensive compared to other nuts globally? I wonder why they are so cheap in Irkutsk, it looks like they go for $117/kg in the United States [1].
