I got into the Linux habit in 1993. From time to time I tried installing some kind of BSD. Occasionally the install worked, but frequently it didn't. (The same has been true about Red Hat Linux since 2005 or so)

It's not clear to me why I should switch away from Linux. The switching cost is real, but the benefits are obscure if they exist at all.

I understand your pain from user perspective. What i meant is if more hardware developers or contributors were happening to BSDs then you might have choosen BSDs over Linux.

... but the "users" also attract the "developers".

There's not just the question of removing obstacles (missing drivers) but also the question of what real advantages of a particular x-BSD. Is it just that people don't like the GPL or is there some concrete reason I'm going to have a better experience with an x-BSD?
