Ask HN: DuckDuckGo or StartPage or other? Which one do you use and why?

I use ddg and I wouldn't want to give up the bang operator shortcuts. I use them heavily.

I use “about:blank” as a start page. It’s way faster then anything else.

Came here to say this, was not disappointed.

Also switched from DDG to StartPage. Search results are much better. Am I correct in assuming StartPage uses Google as its search?

My one hesitation is that it was recently purchased by an advertising/marketing company.

Yes it says so on startpage.com:

> Startpage delivers Google search results via our proprietary personal data protection technology.

I use a public SearX[1] instance because it gives me better results than both DDG and Startpage. [1]: https://searx.space

I've been testing https://search.brave.com/ and liking it so far.

why's the font so tiny on that site?

Dunno... if you use FF then use CTRL+ to increase size.

I use DDG and Brave Search, both are pretty decent.
