Unfortunate, and sad, but suicide isn’t an appropriate or understandable response to having to change course in one’s life. It sucks that people feel that they have to make an irreversible decision in reaction to a situation that can be changed. That it was a mistake makes it worse in some ways but the tragedy lies elsewhere.

This story reminds me a lot of the kid who thought they went into life-shattering debt with Robinhood.

The human impact of our software bugs needs to stay at the forefront of every developers' mind. People are a challenging API to interface with, and can suffer catastrophic failure with bad input.

We need better mental health in our way of living. Failure costs are too high, we aren't close enough to the earth, and each other.

Trying to throw a bunch of psychologists at the problem is not going to solve a systemic problem. I went to a university with a large mental health services facility, and they were constantly overloaded and generally not able to solve the problems of the distressed students.
