Web3 vs. Web2

Fred Wilson is one of the most respected VCs in tech, but his opinions on crypto/blockchain/etc can be challenged quite often, in my view.

In the blog post, for example, he mentions the ability to use Axie token to buy a car. The problem with such example is that Axie is useless in that transaction. One Axie is currently ~US$124 [0], let's say you want to buy a car worth US$24,800, and for that you need 200 Axie tokens.

The car seller could keep the Axie token if he wants to play the "cryptolottery" or "cryptoroulette" of these days, or simply change it back to US$.

This is actually worse than simply using US$ straight up, as you have to pay various fees in the US$ -> Axie -> US$ exchanges.

This shows, in my view, that many people, sometimes even prominent VCs like Fred Wilson, have absolutely no idea why Axie Infinity, or crypto in general, should be important or interesting. But they have a horse in the race and they need to play along.
