Tesla is AFAIK the only automotive giant that designs its own chips. All the rest buy them through their Tier 1 suppliers based on certain module specifications.

Given the current protracted chip famine, maybe they want to consult Musk before doing some radical change. (Perhaps founding a common chip factory with the rest of the car manufacturers?)
