Did you mean "#0#", "star-hash-0-star-hash" or perhaps "star-hash-0-hash-star" (which would result in the text of your post)? None of them did anything at all on my phone.
I think the stars are being converted to italics on some clients/uis, you’ll notice that the op’s first hash is italicised while the second one is not.
