I've discovered the only ones still using OpenOffice anymore are the ones that installed it year ago, before the fork, and don't know that LibreOffice still exists..

Frankly the difference in features between the two is impressive. IMHO there's no reason to use OO anymore

LibreOffice is nearly 11 years old; Oracle dumped OpenOffice onto the ASF about 9 years ago and it has been all but dead for 6 years.

When one of your headline feature additions is "increased font size in Help" you know you're having to reach a bit...

I thought you exaggerated, but it's literally 25% of the only changes:

    • New Writer Fontworks gallery
    • Updated document types where hyperlink is allowed
    • Updated Windows Installer
    • Increased font size in Help

Maybe also interesting to read in this context: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2020/10/12/open-let...

Is there any reason to use openoffice instead of libreoffice these days?

I don't think there has been any reason since LibreOffice forked. One major reason now is that while both can read the new MSO formats, although I don't know which has better support, only LibreOffice can save in them.

LO's support is vastly better and actively worked on. AOO hasn't significantly improved its filters since OOo 3.4 beta in 2011.

It's a joke, right?

you see, managers of that project are getting real money and they need an excuse.

Even that's not the case. AOO has approximately no paid developers, after IBM left in late 2013.

I don't want to seem disrespectful, but OO is a dead project, there is no question about it, I think any work done on OO is just a waste. Even OO brand is dead and worth nothing.

I am always amazed at how so many open source projects do not have screenshots or hide them behind several clicks. Maybe it's meant to act as a bit of a filter, but I'm a hugely visual person and I'd like to not have to watch some rando's youtube video just to see what the product looks like.
