UK reader here .. I just caught the tail-end of a discussion on housing problems in Cornwall caused by purchasers from wealthier parts of the country buying 2nd homes or pay-to-rent properties. The amount of money changing hands is obscene, but of course it's been going on for years. Then a story like this breaks and it makes you realise the huge inequality apparently accepted as the norm.
It's strange that the media is focused on the Putin/Russia story re: the Pandora papers rather than the fact that the papers reveal the United States has become a top destination for hiding assets by the worlds super wealthy and powerful. It's also revealed that many westerners, allies, celebrities, etc. are hiding cash. But of course, western media's takeaway is "PuTiN AnD RUssIA!"...
