Congratulations! I also started a blog recently, mostly as a way to document my tweaks and findings in tech, otherwise it'd be forgotten if I ever needed it again.
I don't think blogs are "dead" by any stretch, but don't blog for others to consume, blog for yourself.
Seems like you're on the right path.
