This is a big step in gaming on Linux. One of the guys I play with regularly had a Windows install purely for EAC games.
So, uhh, how does EAC work on Linux? Do I have to let it sudo and insmod a kernel module…?
Neat. I am pumped about Intel GPUs with official open source drivers for Linux. Exciting times ahead!
Ughh don't trust the client! Why do games use bs like anti-cheat instead of running stuff server side.
Anti-cheat is spyware/malware in my opinion.
I think running on the server would have a much higher cost. If you think about it, you are offloading the hardware cost onto the customer
And as a plus you have access to all customer data (rootkit).
Well there are some cheats that are purely cosmetic but can give a edge in certain gaming scenarios and are very hard to detect serverside. AntiCheats are basically security by obscurity, I don't think anyone should trust them, But I think running them in a VM isn't that bad of a deal?
This... is not a good thing
Why is it not? It brings software support to Linux, which I assume isn't a bad thing?
