It's a bummer that the article doesn't discuss _why_ they need to support real time analytics through SQL queries in prod databases. That's a bad idea, for real time analytics skip databases and computed it directly on some distributed system, on the fly. For analytics, use queries on offline or follower replicas. If you actually massive real time analytics than it's probably worth revisiting your business model as a whole abs redo system design.
