It’s not blindly fast (iirc it’s only a single pci lane and to get the full benefit out of m.2 nvme drives you need 4 lanes)
It’s just that the pci lane is used by the USB3 host controller on the RPI4
2.) Setup your logging accordingly
3.) Let this setup write what changed only once per hour, or a few times per day to solid storage.
4.) If that doesn't suit your needs and you can live with only 4GB RAM, get one of the about a hand full to a dozen boards which do have M.2/MiniPCIE from other vendors, and maybe enjoy faster crypto.

6.) Wonder why it lasts so long a few years later with a grin.
