It is basically a Opensource Figma. Looks great so far.

Hey there! Thank you for all the comments and -shared- excitement. We invite you to know about our plans for Penpot in this recent interview to our CEO: https://opensource.com/article/21/9/open-source-design

This looks very promising!

>For a simpler approach, more akin to downloading a piece of software and running it on top of your operating system, please wait for our Electron-based app bundle later this year. [1]

Hope soon they release the downloadable app and is possible to use it locally/offline/without account (like Inkscape, Gimp, LibreOffice).

I guess that right now is no free and open source tool that cover specifically digital interface design, you can do it with Inkscape but it has so many more unnecessary features (print mostly), and no prototyping, components, developer handoff. Pinpoint seems to be going in that direction (Figma features) and with a good UI/UX approach [2]. Exiting!

It will open the door to designers who can't pay for Adobe XD/Figma subscription. Hope they will be able to sustain the project with his paid cloud/teams service (a la LibreOffice).

For the interested, just added to my RSS reader the repository to stay updated about new releases! (the blog seems to not have rss) https://github.com/penpot/penpot/releases

Thanks for the great review. Penpot has had a great reception from the day we launched it and the team is working really hard on each release. We will soon have a business model behind to ensure the tool's sustainability. Our goal is to make sure that design and open source are finally together for the next... decade.

It would be very interesting to see if this project could support the Design System Package[0] format, which is led by the Adobe XD team, but is being developed as an open standard.

Maybe this tool will finally make a customisable enough base to a app visual code generation platform

Looks awesome! This is one of those ”Shut up and take my money”

This looks amazing, good job!!
