Chipmakers to carmakers: Time to get out of the semiconductor Stone Age

I sense a recurring theme... computer folks don't get that you can't just upgrade all the time, you have to actually keep legacy stuff around for decades if it's used for manufacturing.

What kind of chips do cars use? Are we talking 8051s here?
