Really excited to see this launch. Cloudflare do a good job at making some complex/painful workflows painless, even if they aren't as feature complete as their competitors.

I was hoping their pricing would undercut some of their competition - doesn't seem like I would save much if I moved from Cloudinary, for example. But definitely something I'll consider on future projects.

I do appreciate this pricing model vs. others like Cloudinary that penalise you for creating more variations. Trying to serve the best image sizes/formats per device is best for the user experience.

Semi-related; I'd like to see Cloudflare improve their CDN performance in the Oceania region.

We priced Images to be super affordable for customers of all types. It is hard to do a perfect apples to apples comparison but if you look at Cloudinary’s $99/mo plan for example, you get 225K transformations or 225 GB of storage.

If you purchased $100 worth of storage on Cloudflare Images, you’d be able to store 2 million original images and generate upto 20 resized variants for each image at no extra cost. If we assume your average original is 500kb, that alone is ~1 TB of storage (vs. 225 gb on Cloudinary).

If we assume each variant equals one transformation, you’re getting upto 40 million transformations (vs. additional $99 for 225K transformations) at no additional cost.

Btw this doesn’t take anything away from Cloudinary. We’re fans and think there are plenty of interesting use cases for both Cloudflare Images and Cloudinary to coexist.

Happy to chat more about it. Feel free to reach me at zaid @ cloudflare.

I really wish an integration to something like Sitecore would exist for this since their image pipeline is such hot garbage for both the db, the UX and UI of the user.
