Bolsonaro: New bill will limit tech giants' power to remove content

In principle, I support private property rights and freedom of association. However, I find the platforms' censorship abhorrent and the premises of fact check absurd.

It isn't hard to see how with a little pragmatism on the part of gatekeepers, this kerfuffle could have been avoided. Regulatory capture is waiting in the wings, but politicians who are hostile towards the prevailing big tech agenda won't be angling for that outcome.

It leaves me with the question, did gatekeepers miscalculate?

Gatekeepers are being challenged not only in the regulatory space, but also disrupted by innovators.

If they did miscalculate, it wouldn't be unreasonable to suppose the risks may have been known. Ultimately, which political goals could be manifested by hamfisted censorship and worth risking shareholder value for?
