The best way to think about a site like this is as art.

It may not be a style of art you like or have an aesthetic that you prefer or even be that technically difficult. But it is art designed to engage people.

If it doesn’t engage you, nothing wrong with that. Not all art speaks to all people.

But my advice is to discover the site first and read the article after that.

Why do I feel like all comments in here are in coalition with the creator of this site.

Just an anecdote but I already knew about racertrash and I was not brought here by the creator

I have no idea what is going on but I wonder if that’s to do with being on mobile.

If you visit the site on desktop you are greeted with a retro-style windows desktop with multiple icons to double click with various pieces of content. Some samples include "My Videos", "Buddy List" (with the AOL instant messenger icon), "Racer Trash Movies", and "Woke cat". Double clicking on the recycle bin icon labeled "Racer Trash" brings up this "About" page with the following text:

About

racertrash is a freeform collective of artists br0adcasting reinterpreted:media.etc for charitable causes // your viewing pleasure

* Black Lives Matter.

* Pfannkuchen sind Liebchen.

I think you meant collusion. For a minute I got confused with coalition!

I commented, but only because I found it weird but humariously retro. No idea who the author is or why it was made.

"Sherman, set the Wayback Machine!"

"What year, Mr. Peabody?"

"Any year when Notepad was still my IDE of choice!"

So... 2021?

I love sites like this. Creative and nostalgic with a funky remix.

Too bad, I can't seem to find that “gang gang gang gang” song anywhere else on the interwebs...

here is the track: gang gang gang gang by entro// https://youtube.com/watch?v=qcAn_N0dKHg

That is the instrumental. The full track is here: https://entrobeats.bandcamp.com/track/gang-gang-gang-gang

Thank you so much! I bought the whole album.

It's official now, I do have to go exploring on Bandcamp much more. It's unquestionably one of the greatest sites in today's Internet, in several respects.

I ended up buying the whole album too. Very chill!

Don't get it. Definitely love it.

Turns out I miss You're the Man Now Dog

stares.mov isn't bad.

Turns out you don't have to miss it at all: https://win95-tms.ytmnd.com/

Has a very "How do you do, fellow kids?" vibe. Feels like it's trying too hard to be something a tech journalist writes about.

It’s very vapourwave 2012

Yes. But a decade later by a middle-aged person trying to recapture a feeling that's long gone.

Strange this made it to the front page of HN =/

How so?

I don't get it.

Racer Trash is very very fun to watch with friends in VR.

I am going to put in the Drive soundtrack and click around a bit more.

I laughed out loud at the Date/Time Properties window.

Big year for Pullman

love the gang gang gang gang music, so soothing.

What in tarnation.jpg

Yeah that's what I was thinking, this whole website is just one big fever dream.

As much as I like vaporwave and its aesthetic, it's time to move on. 80s worship has been going on over for decade now. It's so tiring.

Almost two decades. Does that show the strength of 80s design?

I think it's more that cyberpunk froze the 80s aesthetic in time as a symbol/target of social critique.
