2. Following Baudrillard I'm say that "The Afghan War did not take place". Namely, there were no stakes for the US, nothing to win or lose. The war was never going to change Afghanistan, it never prevented or caused a terrorist attack. Unlike Vietnam it did not endanger enough of the US public for it to become a center of opposition. People died, but the whole point of the "war" was to be one of those pseudo-events that Ari Schulman says don't happen anymore.
