Ask HN: What's a good JavaScript bundle size to aim for?
Disclaimer: I know this is relative to the use-case; in my case I'm talking about an "average" React-based site with a mixture of mostly-static pages but also a dashboard, etc.
Disclaimer 2: This being HN, I'm not interested in rants or bad-faith "zero KB" answers. I'm talking about realistic goals given realistic business needs.
Disclaimer 3: There's obviously not just one answer; it's a sliding scale depending on balancing this metric against others. Optimizing something to death isn't always worth it; assume that the easy wins have already been found.
I'm just looking for a middle-of-the-road watermark. Is 200kb reasonable? What about 500kb? Etc. Do you have a similar site? What's its size, and do you think it's reasonable (does it reasonably serve SEO and your customers?)?
