Ask HN: What languages/frameworks do you use for platform operations tasks?

By "platform operations" I'm referring to what some would call DevOps; deployments, database migrations, general automation scripts, etc.

I ask because my new employer uses JavaScript via Gulp, and this caught me by surprise, as I'd never heard of anyone using Gulp like this. It got me to wondering what other patterns are out there that I've never encountered.
