Ask HN: Is Brex a scam? Should I report our case to the CFPB?

We started using Brex a month or so ago, having signed up with Brex using an affiliate link that promises certain point rewards after we spend X amount of money.

It doesn't we are getting the points per the deal we signed up for, and their customer service just doesn't respond to our requests. It's not a whole lot of money — a few hundred dollars at most — but I thought the finance sector was pretty tightly regulated about these things? Isn't this something like false advertising?

It's been a couple of months now and it doesn't seem like their customer service is replying anymore, and I'm considering filing a complaint to the CFPB and other agencies. I think it's more about the principle, and feeling like getting swindled by a neobank / not-a-bank that's the most annoying part of it.

Otherwise, using Brex has been great. It's just that getting pulled in as a customer under false pretenses leaves a seriously bad impression.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I file a complaint or just let it go?

Brex is not a scam, but they do overpromise and underdeliver. It's a charge card (money has to be paid back at the end of the month, and is automatically deducted from checking account). They have low credit limits, and the point thing usually doesn't materialize (we got 50% of what we were supposed to, I think.)

I have a business account at Brex in Vancouver Canada BC and have been scammed out of $25,000.00 to access my account. These 3 people have been scamming me since March of 2021. I am constantly being charged for fees upon fees and more so because I am also a US based company. These scammers are Victoria Lindsay, Tom Anderson, and Sylvester Rowland. I have evidence of account information, email evidence, and payments submitted.

I have contacted Brex at support@brex.com and support-ops@brex.com many times and only get auto generated email response. No one from Brex has bothered to contact me for the details of those people that are scamming me from their company. Brex seem to approve of this behavior from these 3 people. Even reporting this to the Vancouver Police Department goes unanswered. Now I have to hire an attorney to settle this matter and help capture these scammers.

If the affiliate link was the one promising something, then you might need to file against that affiliate (likely not under the CFPB). It's possible they were advertising something that wasn't approved/supported by Brex.
