I'd argue that we still carry scars from the Ottoman rule, even though it ended 2 centuries ago.

There are living people in USA who were around for the segregation.

My grandfather, who passed only 14 years ago, was a slave. I have not qualms with the word "master".

Are there any documented cases of the word "master" offending anybody?
