The title makes it sound like they misplaced it.

Rather, after the rover drilled, it turned out the tube was empty.

The Mars Insight self-drilling mole had to give up eventually.

Does NASA invite field experts that make a living from drilling for oil and minerals on Earth to check the mechanical system they send to Mars?
