The acquisition happened in 1991 so it’s not a new thing.

I’m really curious to understand how the relationship works though. And wonder if the US operations are largely independent or not.

7-Eleven US was bought by the Japanese parent in 2005 out of bankruptcy.

There was some structuring in 2005. But Ito Yokado acquired majority control in 1991.
