Simply put, a crystal is matter that is symmetric along its lattice, which are discrete steps in space. A crystal will be like that forever if you leave it alone. A time crystal is symmetric in time, so moves between states constantly, and will do so forever if you leave it alone.

Just asking for a friend: what makes this such a great scientific achievement? of what practical use is it? Can it be used as a means to solve other 'hard' math problems? can it power a hyperdrive? a time machine? practically infinite energy without carbon entanglement?
