> It is expected to use 98,000 tons of water a day — roughly 50% of TSMC’s total daily water consumption in 2020
Is chip manufacturing machines use so much of water? is it used for cooling or what this has been used for? can someone explain?
It might be because of all the reverse-osmosis and other purifying processes that give you some ratio of ultra-pure-water:slightly-unpure-water, which gets even more unbalanced for the smaller node sizes.
It also makes me wonder why many of the US chip plant plans are in Arizona.
1. Cooling towers
2. Everything else
So what are the actual benefits? I’ve seen comments here previously claiming that the nm numbers have no bearing on physical reality and are more of a marketing gimmick. If that’s the case what can we expect with 2nm?
