I am anxious it is a measure to keep the masses silent.

On the other hand, cannabis (like every other drug) does not necessarily lead people to think or act a certain way. A huge part of its effect depends on set and setting.
The culture around cannabis use probably influences how people act on it much more than the drug itself.
Not really sure if I actually object to its legalisation or not, but I can't really think of anything legal (incl. bylaws for e.g. littering) that other people can do and unintentionally or even unavoidably impact others.
Noise I suppose? As in really loud music, within your own home, but so loud it bothers the neighbours.
I don't really think that's a good enough reason for it to be illegal. I'd at least like it not to be allowed in public spaces though, and I suppose particularly bad cases in private to be treatable like 'noise complaints' to police or council or whatever people do.
Nowadays, people don't really care as long as they can have their Latte Machiato and have a holiday in the Mediterranean twice a year.
It was described to me as the go-to or default when you don’t know what to do. Translates to ‘do normal’. (Like Young MC’s ‘Bust a move’, haha).
That seemed like good advice from a country with permissive drug policies. When things get crazy, do normal. I think of this when I see youth with full face piercings or whole body tattoos working normal retail jobs. Like they went crazy, and then did normal. Of course that’s just my imagination, but life is like that sometimes (whether you wear the scars on the inside or on the outside).
When I look up the phrase today, web results show the imperative, ‘be normal’.
I’m reasonably convinced that integrating organized crime into a community brings with it a lot more apathy than regular consumption of cannabis
On the other hand, NL has been exceptionally tolerant and liberal in almost all ways except for its anti-muslim xenophobia... so maybe cannabis use has had a mellowing effect?
I've read of psychological studies where people were told they were given THC while being told it was a stimulant, and the users reported stimulant effects and acted as if they were given a stimulant.
The mind is a powerful thing.
I had weed that made me feel very well and relaxed, while being focused and productive, easily staying in 'flow'. Without munchies, anxiety, or hangover afterwards. Very well balanced. Problem is one does not know what sort from which source is like that. And if one finally knows, the availability of that stuff is maybe gone. Maybe it depends on what you eat and drink before? How about trying some 'adaptogenic' drink with it? Or simply pomegrenade juice? Or nice green tea? Mate? Guarana?
edit: That even went so far that I had to consciously remind myself to at least eat something while being on it. Same for staying hydrated.
:-)
Don't fear the reefer! No, seriosly, it's FUD!
edit: I mean, it can be, but it doesn't have to. It really depends on the sort/breed/age and so much more.
