Fellow natives should be able to propose changes. Some symbol choices will never be consensual but some are clearly a mistake[1]. I believe many Portuguese don't even know the presented monument. Belem tower is the reasonable choice[2].
A similar thing with India too. For example, a lot of people know field hockey as our national sport, but in reality, India has no national sport.
Additionally, India has no 'founder'.
I'm familiar with individual states within the U.S. having state-recognized dishes, fruits, flowers, etc; but I've never thought of the country having them. Interesting.
