Many strange things happen in hiring processes like this: they interviewed persons A and B, made an offer to B, then B refused the offer, now they are desperate and A could get a second chance.

If they "ghost" A they are in an easier position to make A an offer.

I had first thought the same. But within 15 minutes of my email? If a candidate was second choice wouldn't you wait till they accepted if you were going to go choice two? This isn't a FANG company but is a well funded tech startup that's been around for 9 years. What's a "ghost"?

To "ghost" is to break off communication with somebody without explanation.

It's a common complaint that it happens to people who are dating or job searching.
