I braced myself and carried a small spider to my 3yo kid and showed it to him. I was extremely uncomfortable, but he didn't notice. Same with a frog (though I was comfortable).

From that time he is playing with and carrying spiders, frogs and various insects, small and large, without thinking about it. I guess it's about early experiences.
