China Has Big Plans for Small Taiwan.

Will be nice if TSMC will also produce something. All we here here about TSMC is how great the future will look like. How about the present ?

Can you be more specific? TSMC has manufactured millions of chips every year for decades (including almost every Nvidia, Apple, and ATI chip ever made). It will do more this year than any other company in the world.

Problem is, increasing production capacity is a very costly endeavor, and the current high demand might be temporary.

Nah, demand will continue to grow. Especially since many larger companies are starting to develop their own processors and workload specific ICs.

I think that hardware/IC design is going to go through a renaissance like the software side of things went through from ~2005+ where large companies start to pick and choose the parts they need for their custom silicon. You already see many of them start to adopt more practices that you see in the software/open source side of things.

I have also heard less about CPUs being the pipeline blocker and more about support chips delaying manufacturing line.
