Ask HN: Does anyone here use Shopify?
I've built the website myself using Vue.js and Stripe for payment processing.
I've had some trouble getting sales. My Etsy store conversion rate is about 20x higher. I know Etsy shoppers are very ready to buy, but I was hoping to get something better for my own website.
My thought was maybe my website should more closely resemble a typical online store, which got me thinking about switching to the Shopify platform.
Has anyone on here used Shopify before? Is it valuable to someone who knows how to do their own frontend/backend programming? I've poked around a bit and am generally not impressed with the amount of customization possible For example, I can't add "Sections" to any page other than the home page and almost everything requires an "App", which gives questionable third parties access to all my customer data.
But all that being said I was still able to get a passable storefront up and running in a week, which is much faster than my original store.
I'd love to hear from others who has successfully used Shopify, or people who used it and left.
