Agreed. Similar to why Plan9 did not replace Unix, because Unix is good enough. It does not mean we can't do better, but the leap forward was (is) not big enough.

To gain traction and acceptance, the offering must be several times better.
Marketing also counts.
Hence the lingering demise of python2.7: python3 didn't offer sufficient sizzle until ~3.6 or so.
